The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Texas Rangers 7-2 on Tuesday. Key to the victory were a 5-run second inning and a quality start by Kyle Gibson (2-0).
Gibson faced 25 batters in 7.0 innings of work, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits (2 HR) while striking out 5. Just as significant is the fact that his start allowed a heavily-used bullpen rest. The right-hander was the winning pitcher and is off to a nice start for the Birds.
The second inning scoring started with a one-out walk followed by a single. Ryan McKenna (1 for 4, 1 R, 1 RBI) singled in the first run. A Cedric Mullins (1 for 5, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI) double plated the second run and Ryan Mountcastle (2 for 5, 1 2B, 1 R, 3 RBI) capped off the inning with a three-run homerun to right field.
Jorge Mateo (2 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) hit a two-run homerun in the 3rd inning, finishing the Orioles’ scoring.
