Monday’s game with the Oakland Athletics was a homerun party for the Baltimore Orioles. The Birds hit three homeruns enroute to a 5-1 win over the A’s and introduced the newest HR celebration, the “homer hose”. I guess the homerun chain is so yesterday. Baltimore homerun hitters will now chug a bottle of water (poured into a funnel at the top end of the hose) from the hose.
Three Orioles got a taste of the hose during the game. Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 4, 1 run, 2 RBI) in the first inning, Adley Rutschman (1 for 4, 1 run, 1 RBI) in the third and Austin Hays (2 for 4, 1 2B, 2 runs, 1 RBI) in the sixth.
Kyle Gibson (3-0) gave the team a quality start and stayed undefeated on the season despite struggling through a 30 pitch first inning. The right hander allowed 1 run (in the first inning) on 5 hits with 3 walks, 4 strikeouts and a wild pitch thrown in 6.1 innings. Gibson also threw back-to-back 5 pitch innings in the 5th and 6th.
Bryan Baker struck out both batters he faced to end the seventh inning.
Cionel Perez (1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 K) and Felix Bautista (1.0 IP, 1 H, 3 K) closed it out.
