The Orioles defeated the Athletics 12-8 Tuesday evening. In actuality, it was Ryan Mountcastle who single-handedly defeated Oakland. The Baltimore first baseman went 3 for 4 with 2 homeruns, the second was a grand slam in the seventh inning, 2 runs scored and 9 RBI. Five of Mountcastle’s nine RBI came when it mattered most, with two outs.
Austin Hays went 4 for 5 with a double, a homerun, 4 runs scored and 2 RBI from the leadoff spot.
Adley Rutschman went 2 for 3 with a double, 2 runs scored and 2 walks.
Combined, the trio went 9 for 12 with 2 doubles, 3 homeruns, 8 runs scored, 11 RBI and 2 walks; a nightmare for Oakland at the top of the lineup.
Grayson Rodriguez, making his Camden Yards debut, gave up 5 runs on 6 hits with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched.
Reliever Bryan Baker (1-0) was credited with the win. He struck out 1 pitching in the 7th inning.
