The Battle of the Beltways Part 1 started Tuesday night in Nationals Park in DC. The Orioles blanked the Washington Nationals 1-0 in a game, based on the TV views at least, that seemed to have more Orioles orange than Nationals red.

Dean Kremer (1-0) took the bump to start and tossed 6.2 solid innings. Kremer, the only player left with the Baltimore organization from the Manny Machado trade in 2018, allowed 4 hits, struck out 6 and hit a batter while getting dinged twice for pitch timer violations. The right-hander tossed 95 pitches (66 strikes) and faced the minimum in three innings in earning the win. With runners on second and third and no outs in the third inning, Kremer struck out the side to get out of the jam.

Yennier Cano struck out 1 in 1.0 innings of relief and Felix Bautista allowed 1 hit in the ninth to earn his fifth save of the season.

The Birds scored their run in the fourth with an Austin Hays (1 for 4, 1 RBI) single plated Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 4, 1 Run) from second base.

Anthony Santander went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.
