The Baltimore Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox 6-2 Wednesday afternoon at Camden Yards. The team will now leave for an eleven day road trip on a high note, having won six series this season.
Singles and sacrifice flies were the order of the day. Baltimore tallied their 6 run on 11 hits; only one hit was for extra bases. Three sacrifice flies plated runs as well.
Tyler Wells (1-1) gave the Orioles a decent start, throwing 102 pitches (68 strikes) over 5.2 innings. He allowed Boston 2 runs on 4 hits (1 homerun) while walking 1 and striking out 7. For his efforts, Wells earned the win.
The “Rock” of the bullpen was Yennier Cano. The right-handed reliever struck out 1 over 1.2 innings. Cano was given that moniker by Felix “The Mountain” Bautista. Cano did hit Boston’s Justin Turner with a pitch, ending his pursuit of Fred Holdworth’s team record of retiring the first 24 batters faced to open a season (1976).
Anthony Santander went 0 for 3 with 2 RBI (2 sacrifices).
Adley Rutschman went 0 for 2 with 1 RBI (1 sacrifice) and 2 walks.
Ryan McKenna went 2 for 2 with a double and 1 RBI.
