Saturday’s first game of a twinbill with the Detroit Tigers did not go the Orioles way. The Birds fell 7-4 in what was not a good representation of Baltimore pitching.
Dean Kremer (2-1) threw 89 pitches (57 strikes) in a struggle to get through 5.0 innings. Kremer, who allowed base runners in every inning, gave up 5 runs on 11 hits, walked 2 and struck out 6. As a result, he was tagged with the loss and saw his ERA go to 6.67.
DL Hall (the 27th player allowed for the double-header) showed some signs of his potential as he finished out the game. Baltimore’s sixth ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline gave up 2 runs on 5 hits (1 HR), walked 1, struck out 7, threw a wild pitch and committed a balk over 3.0 innings.
The Birds scored 3 runs in the 8th inning to make it interesting at 6-4 but a Detroit run in the bottom of the 8th sealed the loss.
Jorge Mateo’s (1 for 3, 1 run scored, 3 RBI, 1 BB) homerun accounted for the 8th inning run parade.
