The Baltimore Orioles beat the New York Yankees 3-1 Thursday night to finish the road trip through Toronto and the Bronx with a 5-1 record. As Memorial Day approaches, the Orioles sit in second place in the AL East, 3.0 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays.
Kyle Gibson (6-3) gave the Orioles a quality start, just like he did on Friday in Toronto. Facing 25 batters in 7.0 innings of work Gibson limited the Yankees to just 2 hits while walking 4 and striking out 3 and in turn, earning the win. Mike Baumann retired the side in the 8th inning, striking out 2 and Yennier Cano (1.0 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) picked up his 4th save.
Anthony Santander (3 for 3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB) started the scoring with a 5th inning single that allowed Adam Frazier (1 for 5, 1 2B, 1 R), who doubled, to score.
Walks to Santander and Gunnar Henderson (1 for 3, 1 R, 2 BB) in the 8th set the table for Austin Hays (1 for 4, 1 2B, 2 RBI) to send them home and start the sprinklers with his double to right that missed being a homerun by about one inch (confirmed by crew chief review).
