The Baltimore Orioles faced an old friend in San Francisco on Saturday. Former Oriole Alex Cobb (2018-2020) started for the Giants and led his team to a 4-0 shutout over the Birds. Cobb lacked hospitality by limiting the Baltimore bats to five hits and striking out 7 over 7.2 innings.
No Orioles hitter could figure Cobb out; the team’s five hits were spread out over five players. Adam Frazier went 1 for 4 and Adley Rutschman went 1 for 4 as well but with 2 strikeouts. Aaron Hicks went 1 for 3. Ryan Mountcastle and Ryan O’Hearn each went 1 for 3 with a strikeout.
Hicks and Frazier were the only Baltimore players in the starting line up not to strike out.
Gunnar Henderson (0 for 1, 1 K) left the game after the top of the third inning with a lower back issue and is listed as day-to-day.
Baltimore starter Kyle Bradish (2-2) got through 4.0 innings, facing 20 batters, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, walking 1, striking out 5 and throwing a wild pitch, doing so by throwing 79 pitches (53 strikes). Bradish retired the side in the second inning only and was the pitcher of record.
Four relievers finished the game. Keegan Akin (0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K), Bryan Baker (0.2 IP, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K) and Cionel Perez (0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 K) handed the game over to newly recalled Bruce Zimmermann (2.0 IP, 2 K).
