The Baltimore Orioles visited the baseball cathedral that is Wrigley Field Friday. Despite a friendly reunion with former Oriole Trey Mancini, Wrigley Field did not present itself as the moniker “the friendly confines” implies, at least not to the Orioles. Baltimore dropped the game to the Chicago Cubs by a score of 10-3.
Pleasantries aside, Mancini went 2 for 2 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 2 walks against his former club.
Starter Cole Irvin (1-3) saw what it is like when the wind is blowing out in Wrigley as he gave up three homeruns in the third inning including back to back homers to Dansby Swanson and Christopher Morel with two outs. Irvin finished the day having allowed 3 runs on 5 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work; he was tagged with the loss.
The game went south when the Cubs scored six runs in the sixth inning. Two walks, a single, a third walk, another single, a double and a third and final single produced the runs.
As for the Orioles, Ryan O’Hearn went 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored, Austin Hays went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and Jorge Mateo went 1 for 4 with a double and 1 RBI.
