The Baltimore Orioles took the Orange Caravan to Southern California on Monday and treated themselves to a 4-1 win over the San Diego Padres. The Birds took the lead on a Ryan O’Hearn (2 for 3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB) homerun in the second inning. They then tacked on three more runas in the fifth while the pitching did the rest, allowing a single San Diego run in the sixth inning.

Gunnar Henderson (2 for 4, 3 RBI) did all the damage in the fifth with a bases-loaded double that scored Aaron Hicks (2 for 3, 1 R), Jordan Westburg (1 for 4, 1 R) and Adley Rutschman (0 for 3, 1 R, 1 BB).

Cedric Mullins went 1 for 4 with a double.

Grayson Rodriguez (3-3), making his 16th start of the year, kept the Friars in check with a 95 pitch (65 strikes) effort that covered 24 batter and 7.0 innings. He held San Diego to 1 run on 3 hits, walked 1 and struck out 6; the lone run coming on a Garrett Cooper homerun in the sixth inning.

Jacob Webb, in just his fourth appearance for the Orioles (claimed off of waivers on 8/7), gave up 1 hit in 1.0 inning of work.

The game moved from Pacific time to “Mountain time” in the ninth when Felix Bautista notched save 32 with a 1.0 inning, 2 walk performance.
