The Baltimore Orioles dropped the series opener to the Toronto Blue Jays 6-3 in 10 innings Tuesday night. Tied at three and having shot their “Mountain” bullet after nine innings, the Orioles called on Mike Baumann (9-1) to pitch the tenth and try to hold down the Blue Jays. Baumann toed the rubber and his first offering, a 96.6 mph four-seam fastball that Toronto’s Brandon Belt turned around at 106.9 mph for a two-run homerun. Baumann allowed one more run and finished with the loss and a 1.0 IP, 3 R, 2 H, 1 HR, 1 K, 1 WP line after the Birds went three-up, three-down in their half of the inning.
Starter Grayson Rodriguez kept the Orioles in the game by allowing 3 runs on 8 hits (1 HR), walking 2 and striking out 5 over 6.0 innings. Four relievers combined to keep the Blue Jays scoreless over 3.0 innings until that four-seam fastball.
