The Baltimore Orioles lost 7-3 to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday in a game that was played mostly in the rain. The start of the game was delayed 42 minutes and then there was an 88 minute interruption in the bottom of the eighth inning. It probably shoud have been postponed but that’s the price you pay for being in a pennant race with three weeks left in the season. At least no player was hurt playing in those conditions.

Grayson Rodriguez (5-4) made the start and allowed 4 runs, 2 earned, on 7 hits, walked 2, struck out 6 and hit a batter over 4.1 innings. He took the loss and was victimized by one of the team’s uncharacteristic three errors in the game.

Cole Irvin relieved Rodriguez and allowed 3 runs on 1 hit, a Triston Casas homerun, struck out 6 and hit a batter over 2.2 innings.

Held down by Boston pitching, the Orioles scored all their runs in the second inning. Singles by Ryan O’Hearn (1 for 4, 1 R), Cedric Mullins (1 for 4, 1 R, 1 SB) and Aaron Hicks (1 for 3, 1 R, 1 RBI) as well as an Adam Frazier (2 for 3, 1 3B, 2 RBI) triple accounted for the three runs.

Adley Rutschman went 1 for 4 with a double.

Gunnar Henderson went 1 for 4.
