Wednesday was not a good day collectively for the Baltimore Orioles. The orange and black birds lost 1-0 to the St. Louis Cardinals, they lost a game in the standings to the Tampa Bay Rays and the lost first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (0 for 0, 1 BB) to an apparent shoulder injury suffered during his 1st inning at-bat.
The game most certainly was a pitcher’s duel and coming out on top of that duel was former Orioles pitcher Drew Rom (1-2). Rom, one of three players sent to St. Louis for Jack Flaherty, limited the Baltimore offense to 2 hits over 5.1 innings; he walked 3 and struck out 7 as well.
On the flip side, Kyle Gibson (14-9) did all he could, allowing 1 run on 3 hits (1 HR), walking 3 and striking out 4 over 6.2 innings. Gibson was saddled with the loss despite his best efforts.
Anthony Santander went 1 for 4 with a double, Gunnar Henderson went 1 for 4 with a triple and Jorge Mateo went 1 for 1 with a walk; collectively the team went 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position.

A footnote to the series: 2018 Draft Pick Richie Palacios (Towson University) went 3 for 8 with 3 homeruns, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI in a “homecoming” of sorts. Palacios homered twice on Tuesday and once on Wednesday.
