The Baltimore Orioles returned home on Friday and dropped a game to the Oakland Athletics 3-2 in 10 innings. Who could have imagined it? Corbin Burnes gave the team a quality start, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits (1 HR) while walking 3, striking out 6 and picking off a runner at first over 6.0 innings of work. The Orioles were leading 2-1 entering the ninth with their closer Craig Kimbrel (0.2 IP, R, 2 H, 3 BB) on the mound.
What could go wrong? Kimbrel gives up a double and a walk and then Ryan McKenna (0 for 0) misplays a ball in right field allowing the tying run to cross the plate. The Birds go three-up, three-down in the ninth. In the tenth a ball gets by Colton Cowser (1 for 4) for a RBI-double.
The Orioles faced Mason Miller in their half of the tenth and of the 13 pitches he threw to the Birds, only three were <100 mph. Two strikeouts and a ground out: game over.
Cedric Mullins went 1 for 4 with a fourth inning homerun, 1 run scored and 1 RBI.
Ryan O’Hearn went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.
Gunnar Henderson went 0 for 5 with a run scored.
Anthony Santander went 1 for 4 with a double.
Yennier Cano gave the Orioles a solid relief performance, striking out 2 in 1.1 innings.
Jacob Webb (0-1) allowed an unearned run on 1 hit and struck out 1 and was tagged with the loss.
