On a dreary and drizzly Friday night in Baltimore, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2 in front of a national TV audience on Apple TV+. The stars were out for Mr. Splash Bobblehead night. New principal owner David M. Rubenstein even appeared as the guest Splasher. He promoised a bobblehead if a homerun was hit, sadly that did not occur.
The Orioles opened the second inning and the scoring with back to back singles by Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 4, R) and Anthony Santander (1 for 4, R). A Jordan Westburg (1 for 4, 2B, RBI) double brought Mountcastle home and a Cedric Mullins (0 for 4, RBI) groundout plated Santander.
Ryan O’Hearn (1 for 2, RBI, 2 BB) knocked in Gunnar Henderson (1 for 3, 2B, R, RBI, BB) in the fifth inning and Henderson doubled in Jorge Mateo (1 for 3, R) in the seventh.
Starter Cole Irvin (4-1) allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, including 1 homerun, while issuing a walk and striking out 6 over 5.2 innings. He was lifted for Albert Suarez (0.1 IP, H) after throwing 95 pitches (62 strikes).
Craig Kimbrel struck out 1 pitching the seventh inning, a move made to try to get him back on track and get him right.
Jacob Webb (0.2 IP, BB) and Cionel Perez (0.1 IP) combined to pitch the eighth inning.
Yennier Cano (1.0 IP, H, K) earned his second save of the season, making Irvin the winning pitcher.
