The Baltimore Orioles lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-2 on Sunday. A six-run sixth inning by the Diamondbacks prevented the Orioles from sweeping the three game series. Arizona entered the sixth with a 3-1 lead and then did all their damage with two outs. Three walks, a homerun, a couple of singles and a double led to the outburst; a wild pitch and some questionable throws compounded the matter.
Starter Dean Kremer (3-3) took the loss despite tying his career high of striking out 10 batters in a game. He allowed 6 runs, 3 earned, on 4 hits with a homerun allowed and 4 walks over 5.2 innings of work. Cionel Perez tried to stem the tide but couldn’t, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits with a walk, a strike out and a wild pitch thrown in 0.1 inning.
Albert Suarez continued to show his versatility by throwing the final 3.0 innings of the contest allowing a hit and striking out 3. He pitched the seventh inning and then went one batter into the eighth before waiting out a 33 minute rain delay only to return to the mound for the final six outs.
Adley Rutschman went 1 for 4 with a homerun, 1 run scored and 1 RBI. The homerun, his sixth of the year, came in the sixth inning with his mother Carol present in the Camden Yards crowd.
Anthony Santander went 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
Ryan O’Hearn went 1 for 4 while Jordan Westburg went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI and 2 walks.
