The Baltimore Orioles suffered a 3-2, 10 inning loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday evening. Two runs on three hits will not get it done, especiall against AL East competition.
Corbin Burnes deserved better for the quality start (6.0 IP, R, 6 H, 2 BB, 2 K) he produced. Burnes left with the game tied at one and was in line for the win until Yennier Cano (0.1 IP, R, H, HR, 2 BB) surrendered an eighth inning homerun to Toronto’s Daulton Varsho.
The O’s struck out three times in the eighth and went three up, three down in the ninth. They did manage to get the ghost runner Ryan Mountcastle (0 for 4) to third with one out and Jordan Westburg‘s (0 for 3, BB) two out walk put runners on first and third. Cedric Mullins (0 for 4) grounded out to second to end the game.
Also wasted in the game was the first ever two homerun game by Adley Rutschman. Rutschman homered to right-center in the fourth inning and to right field in the sixth to go 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI on the night.
The only other Baltimore hit came off the bat of Ryan O’Hearn (1 for 4) in the first inning.
