Wednesday’s game with the Boston Red Sox saw them take an early 1-0 lead on the Baltimore Orioles with a single, an error and a fielder’s choice in the second inning. Gunnar Henderson (1 for 4, HR, R, 4 RBI), who committed the fielding error, made amends for it in the bottom of the inning by hitting a grand slam homerun that staked the Birds to a 5-1 lead.
Ramon Urias (2 for 2, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, HBP) accounted for the remainder of the Orioles scoring with a RBI single that preceded Henderson’s grand slam and with a seventh inning solo homerun of his own.
Ryan Mountcastle went 2 for 4 and Anthony Santander went 1 for 4 with a run scored. That’s six hits for Baltimore but the seemingly lack of offense at times is worrisome.
Corbin Burnes (5-2) started and gave the team another quality start, his 10th in 12 starts. Burnes allowed just 1 run on 3 hits with 3 walks, 5 strikeouts and a wild pitch over 7.0 innings, needing 108 pitches (67 strikes) to do so.
Danny Coulombe (1.0 IP, H, K) and Dillon Tate (1.0 IP, 2 H) took it from there.
2024 Record: 35-19
