The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 6-3 on Friday night in Florida. The Birds did so on the strength of three homeruns. Anthony Santander (2 for 3, HR, R, RBI) hit a solo shot in the second inning while Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 3, HR, R, 2 RBI, HBP) and Jordan Westburg (2 for 4, HR, R, 2 RBI) each hit two-run shots in the fifth and eighth innings, respectively.
That’s five runs on 1,067 ft. of longball.
Starter Cole Irvin (6-2) did record the win but came up just a little short of a quality start. The lefty allowed 3 runs on 8 hits (HR) while walking none and striking out 6 over 5.2 innings.
Craig Kimbrel (1.0 IP) pitched a clean ninth inning to earn his 14th save of the year.
Ramon Urias (1 for 4, 2B, RBI) doubled home Colton Cowser (1 for 4, R) in the second inning on a play at the plate that was overturned upon review. Cowser also silenced a Tampa Bay rally in the sixth with a nifty running catch in left to end the inning.
Gunnar Henderson went 1 for 5 with a run scored.
Ryan O’Hearn went 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
