The Baltimore Orioles put a 9-0 beatdown on the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday. The Birds handed the Chisox loss number 109 on the season. Baltimore pitching and hitting both took advantage of the MLB bottom feeders while the White Sox shot themselves in the foot.
The play that busted the game open and probably was a summation of the White Sox horrendous season came in the bottom of the second inning. The bases were loaded with two outs and the O’s leading 4-0 when Eloy Jimenez (2 for 4, BB) hit a fly ball to short left field that Chicago’s Miguel Vargas and Andrew Benintendi collided into one another on, allowing the ball to drop and clearing the bases, extending the Orioles lead to 7-0.
In a dominant performance, Cade Povich (2-7) limited the White Sox to 5 hits over 7.1 innings pitched and struck out 10, doing so in 98 pitches (70 strikes). Povich not only earned the win, but he also gave the bullpen a much-needed rest.
Anthony Santander went 2 for 3 with a double, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.
Colton Cowser went 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI and 2 walks.
Ryan O’Hearn went 1 for 3 with a double, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and 2 walks.
Gunnar Henderson went 1 for 3 with a double, 3 runs scored, 2 walks and a stolen base.
