There are 17 games remaining in the 2024 regular season. The Baltimore Orioles currently sit in second place in the AL East, 1.5 games behind the New York Yankees. As far as the Wild Card race is concerned, the Orioles are currently the first wild card team and are 5.5 games to the good. Now is not the time to struggle, it may be cliche, but every game matters.

The Orioles dropped the first game of their final road trip 12-3 to the Boston Red Sox. The lone bright spot among the six hits generated by the Baltimore bats was the season’s 40th homerun by Anthony Santander (2 for 4, HR, R, 3 RBI, BB) in the seventh inning. Santander’s 1st inning single knocked in Gunnar Henderson (1 for 4, 2B, R, BB) and his fourth inning bases-loaded walk allowed Colton Cowser (0 for 2, R, 2 BB) to score.

Adley Rutschman (2 for 5) and Emmanuel Rivera (1 for 1) each hit a double.

Baltimore pitching gave up a pair of back-to-back homeruns to Rob Refsnyder and Tyler O’Neill.

Starter Cade Povich (2-8) took the loss, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits (2 HR) while walking 2 and striking out 5 over 4.2 innings.

The bullpen was ineffective with Burch Smith allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and hitting a batter in 0.2 inning while Cole Irvin allowed 2 runs on 2 hits (2 HR) with 3 strike outs in 1.0 inning of work.

Craig Kimberl allowed 2 runs on 2 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts in the seventh inning.
