The Baltimore Orioles lost 1-0 to the Detroit Tigers Friday night. All that was missing on Friday the 13th was Jason Voorhees and his hockey mask.
The Orioles were on the receiving end of a perfect game for 7.0 innings; Adley Rutschman (0 for 2, BB) opened the eighth inning with a walk. Detroit’s potential no-hitter ended after 8.2 innings on a Gunnar Henderson (1 for 4, 3B) triple to right field.
The extreme lack of offense wasted a quality start by Zach Eflin (10-9). Eflin threw 100 pitches (64 strikes) over 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run on 5 hits with a walk and three strikeouts; Detroit’s lone run came on a first inning homerun by Kerry Carpenter.
Thirteen of Baltimore’s 28 at-bats resulted in a strikeout (7 swinging, 6 caught looking).
