The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Detroit Tigers (44-25) 10-1 on Wednesday night. Front and center were the bats which produced 16 hits against Detroit pitchers. Every player in the lineup recorded a hit with the majority, 7 of 9, recording a pair of hits and every player but one, Colton Cowser (1 for 5), scored at least one run.
Let’s not forget the role that quality starting pitching played in the game as well. Zach Eflin (6-2) allowed 1 run on 5 hits, walked 1 and struck out 5 over 6.2 innings. The Baltimore hit parade rewarded him with the win, his sixth.
Three relievers, Keegan Akin, Bryan Baker and Gregory Soto combined to no-hit the Tigers over the final 2.1 innings. Each reliever struck out one batter.
Holding a 3-1 lead resulting from a Ramon Urias (2 for 4, HR, R, 2 RBI) third inning two-run homerun and a Gunnar Henderson (2 for 3, R, RBI, 2 BB) RBI-single in the seventh, the Orioles broke the game open with a 7 run eighth inning.
In the eighth, the Orioles scored runs on a Cedric Mullins (2 for 4, 2 2B, 2 R, RBI) RBI-double, a wild pitch, a Ryan O’Hearn (1 for 5, R, 2 RBI) RBI-single and the big blow, a Jordan Westburg (2 for 4, 2B, HR, R, 3 RBI, BB) three run homerun to the left field homerun porch.
Adley Rutschman went 2 for 4 with a double, 2 runs scored and a walk.
Jackson Holliday went 2 for 5 with a run scored.
