The game between the Baltimore Orioles and the San Francisco Giants (6-8) should have been more than it wound up being. The Orioles were returning to Camden Yards with the momentum of a three-game winning streak and the town was abuzz as the team debuted their new City Connect 2.0 uniforms. It all pointed to an exciting night at the Yard but the team couldn’t deliver as the Giants beat the Birds 6-3 in front of 32,294 fans. Sadly, the only fireworks came after the game with the first post-game fireworks display.

Orioles’ starter Shane Baz (0-1) struggled through 5.0 innings of work, hurling 99 pitches (59 K’s) in allowing 3 runs on 9 hits, walking 2 and striking out 4. He also surrendered a homerun to Willy Adames in the third inning. Baz, who faced traffic on the bases every inning, only faced the minimum in the first inning thanks to a double play. A four-hit fourth inning touched him for two more runs.

Sandwiched between Yennier Cano (1.0 IP, K) and Albert Suarez (2.0 IP, H, K) was recently acquired Nick Raquet, whose Orioles’ debut left much to be desired. Raquet allowed 3 runs on 2 hits, including a two-run homerun to Jung Hoo Lee, with a walk. His effort tagged Baz with the loss.

As for the Orioles, a double by Leody Taveras in the fourth allowed Dylan Beavers, who drew a walk, to score. A two-out two-run homerun by Gunnar Henderson in the ninth capped the scoring for the Birds.

Adley Rutschman went 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles.

Taveras went 2 for 4 with a double and 1 RBI.

Pete Alonso (0 for 3, BB, 2 K) continues his early season struggles and is batting .176 with 17 strikeouts.

Taylor Ward had the defensive highlight of the night when he robbed Harrison Bader of an eighth inning homerun.
