Thursday’s makeup game with the Chicago Cubs resulted in a 3-2 loss for the Baltimore Orioles. The Cubs hit three homeruns, two by Willson Contreras alone, en route to the victory. The Orioles were held scoreless until the eighth inning where their two run comeback fell short.

Back to back walks by Cedric Mullins (1 for 4, 1 triple, 1 Run Scored, 1 BB) and Adley Rutschman (0 for 2, 1 Run Scored, 2 BB) put a runner in scoring position. Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 3, 1 RBI, 1 BB) singled in Mullins and Anthony Santander’s (0 for 3, 1 RBI) sacrifice fly scored Rutschman.

The Orioles missed two opportunities to score when both Austin Hays (1 for 4, 1 2B) and Mountcastle were thrown out at home.

Spenser Watkins (4-3) made the start and kept the Orioles in the game by tossing 5.2 innings in which he allowed 1 run on 5 hits (1 homerun allowed) while striking out 2. Unfortunately, the loss was hung on him.

Joey Krehbiel allowed 2 runs on 3 hits (2 homeruns allowed) in 2.0 innings of relief.
