On Saturday more than 41,000 fans showed up at Oriole Park to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the “Ballpark that forever changed baseball”. The pre-game ceremonies included former Orioles and Hall of Famers Brooks Robinson, Eddie Murray and Mike Mussina. The current team even received blessings from “Mr. Oriole” himself. The main event, however, was a 6-3 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Orioles scored runs in the first and second innings to build a 3-0 lead and they never gave up that lead.

A left field platoon of Brett Phillips and Ryan McKenna played a major part in the win. Phillips went 1 for 2 with a double and 1 RBI while McKenna went 1 for 1 with a double and 2 RBI. Phillips double knocked in the O’s 3rd run and McKenna’s double knocked in runs 4 and 5.

Terrin Vavra continues to get on base, going 1 for 5 with 1 RBI. He has a five game hitting streak and has reached base in each of his last six games.

Adley Rutschman went 2 for 3 with a run scored and 2 walks.

Jorge Mateo went 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, a walk and was hit by a pitch. Mateo also made an acrobatic catch and flip in the eighth inning to start a pivotal double play.

Austin Voth started and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (1 homerun), walked 1 and struck out 5 over 5.0 innings to earn the win. The homerun he allowed was hit in the 4th inning by Oneil Cruz and was the 6,000th in OPACY history.
