Tuesday’s game with the LA Angels produced a total of 32 hits, thirteen by the Orioles, and in the end the Angels had both out-hit and out-scored the Orioles, winning by a score of 14-8.

It all started out promising with a Ryan Mountcastle (2 for 5, 2 Runs scored, 2 RBI) homerun in the first inning. He added a second homerun in the 6th inning and is now 5 homeruns away from tying Cal Ripken’s rookie record which was set in 1982.

That promise was dashed by the 4th inning with the Angels building a 13-2 lead. The Orioles scored 3 runs in both the 5th and 6th innings to make it interesting but in the end the result was a sadly familiar one.

Anthony Santander had a night, going 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, a homerun, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI.

Ramon Urias went 2 for 4 with a double, 3 RBI and a walk.

Making his Orioles debut, Jahmai Jones went 0 for 4 and was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat. He is the first Oriole since Frank Robinson to be hit by a pitch in his first at-bat as an Oriole. Cedric Mullins (0 for 5, 1 BB) was the only other starter without a hit in the contest.

Spenser Watkins started and was gone after 2.0 innings, having allowed 8 runs on 7 hits with 3 strikeouts, 1 homerun allowed, a wild pitch and a hit batter. Konner Wade didn’t fare much better, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits with 2 walks over 1.1 innings. Fernando Abad pitched 3.1 scoreless innings; he gave up 3 hits, 1 walk and struck out 3.

The losing streak is now 19 games.
