What had the look of a homerun derby turned into an extra-inning affair as the Baltimore Orioles fell to the New York Yankees 7-6 in 11 innings. Three consecutive singles in the bottom of the 11th transformed a 6-5 Orioles lead into a 7-6 defeat and hung the loss on Bryan Baker (1-2). Baker allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits in one-third of an inning.
Through seven innings, a total of 6 homeruns had been hit, 2 by the Orioles and 4 by the Yankees. At least for a night, Gleber Torres was back to his homer happy-ways against Baltimore pitching, hitting a pair of homeruns.
Starting pitcher Bruce Zimmermann surrendered all four of the Yankees homeruns during his 6.1 innings of work, finishing with a line of 4 runs allowed on 6 hits with 5 strikeouts.
Once again Keegan Akin turned in a solid relief effort. The lefty walked 3 and struck out 6 in 2.1 innings and may have found his niche in the bullpen.
Homering for the Orioles were Austin Hays (1 for 5, 1 run scored, 2 RBI) and Rougned Odor (1 for 4, 1 run scored, 4 RBI).
Ryan Mountcastle went 2 for 5 with a run scored and Ramon Urias went 1 for 3 with a double, 1 run scored and a walk.
