Just like Saturday’s game with the Minnesota Twins, the Baltimore Orioles had a 3-0 lead. Unlike Saturday when a walk-off got the best of the Orioles three runs, the Birds made the three runs stick on Sunday and posted a 3-1 win.
Starter and winning pitcher Tyler Wells (7-4) made the most of the Orioles runs by allowing just 1 run on 3 hits with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched. Wells held the Twins scoreless for 5.1 innings.
Wells got the lead that he preserved from M.O.M.’s little helpers (my apologies to the Rolling Stones). Solo homeruns by Trey Mancini (1 for 4, 1 run scored, 1 RBI), Rougned Odor (1 for 3, 1 run scored, 1 RBI, 1 walk) and Ryan Mountcastle (2 for 4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 RBI) combined as the entirety of the Baltimore offense.
Anthony Santander (1 for 4), Tyler Nevin (1 for 4) and Ryan McKenna (1 for 4) rounded out the Orioles hit total of seven.
Dillon Tate struck out 2 of the three batters he faced in the ninth inning to earn his second save of the year.
