For the second day in a row, the Baltimore Orioles fell to the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 6-3 in the Rogers Centre on Saturday. This current trip to Canada has not been a fruitful one so far. The win by Toronto in this crucial series has given the Blue Jays a 2.0 game lead in the Wild Card race; they currently occupy the first AL Wild Card spot.
The game changed on a Ramon Urias (0 for 3, 1 BB) throwing error in the fifth inning. With one out and Toronto leading 3-2, Vladimir Guerrero, Jr hit a ground ball to third that Urias erred on the throw. One out later, two consecutive walks loaded the bases. Raimel Tapia doubled off the centerfield wall to clear the bases and put the Blue Jays up 6-2.
The Orioles scored all their runs on RBI singles. Gunnar Henderson (2 for 4, 1 2B, 1 Run Scored, 2 RBI) singled in 2 runs in the third inning. Henderson’s double led to a Terrin Vavra (2 for 4, 1 2B, 1 RBI) RBI single in the eighth inning.
Kyle Bradish (3-7) was tagged with the loss. The right-hander allowed 5 runs, 3 earned, on 6 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts over 4.2 innings of work.
Keegan Akin pitched the eighth inning and struck out the side on 12 pitches.
Another turning point in the contest came in the fourth inning when Cedric Mullins (1 for 5, 1 Run Scored) was caught stealing home from third base on a botched stop and steal with Adley Rutschman (2 for 4, 1 BB).
Anthony Santander went 2 for 5 with a double and 1 run scored.
Ryan Mountcastle (0 for 0) was hit by a pitch to start the second inning and left the game at the end of the inning. X-Rays on his elbow were negative but due to soreness he will be re-evaluated on Sunday.
