Wednesday’s series finale in Toronto started out as a pitcher’s duel, scoreless through 6 innings. It was also the second game in four days that the Baltimore Orioles were on the wrong end of a perfect game. Toronto’s Ross Stripling was putting zeroes on the board and Orioles starter Austin Voth, while not perfect, was keeping pace.
Voth allowed 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 3 over 6.0 innings.
Cedric Mullins (1 for 4) broke up the perfect game with a single to lead off the seventh inning and back to back singles by Terrin Vavra (1 for 1, 1 Run Scored) and Rougned Odor (1 for 3) in the eighth put runners in scoring position. A Jorge Mateo (0 for 3) groundout advanced the runners and Robinson Chirinos (1 for 3, 1 RBI) singled to cash in the lone run.
The game unraveled with a rare bullpen meltdown in the 7th inning, following Voth’s departure. Joey Krehbiel (0.1 IP, 2 R, 2 H), Cionel Perez (0.0 IP, 3 R, 2 H, 1 BB) and Louis Head (0.2 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 1 BB) struggled with the loss hung on Krehbiel, who is now 4-4 on the season.
