The Baltimore Orioles were swept in their series with the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, losing by a score of 5-1. As the Birds return to Camden Yards to begin a seven game homestand on Monday, the hope is that the Orioles bats are found.
In the three game series with the Tigers the Orioles were held to a total of three runs and sixteen hits. The team went 18 straight innings (from the 9th inning Friday until the 8th inning Sunday) without scoring a run.
Trey Mancini broke the scoring drought with his 9th inning homerun and finished the day by going 1 for 3, with the homerun, a run scored, 1 RBI and a walk. Ramon Urias (1 for 3, 1 BB), Tyler Nevin (1 for 4) and Ryan McKenna (1 for 3) accounted for the remaining team hits.
Starter Tyler Wells (1-3) managed to get through 4.0 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits while striking out 2. Wells also surrendered Miguel Cabrera’s 505th career homerun. That blast allowed Cabrera to move to 27th place on the all-time homerun list and to pass, ironically enough, Orioles Hall of Famer Eddie Murray. For his efforts and a lack of offensive effort, Wells was tagged with the loss.
