Thursday afternoon’s contest between the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees was a back and forth affair as it entered the ninth inning. With the Orioles leading 6-5, the Yankees tied the game on a DJ LeMahieu two out RBI single. Le Mahieu then got into scoring position as a result of an Anthony Santander throwing error. The Yankees subsequently were able to load the bases; that is where their threat ended.

Austin Hays (o for 4, 1 run scored, 1 walk) opened the bottom of the ninth by reaching base on a fielding error. A Trey Mancini (2 for 5, 1 run scored) single set the stage for Santander, who proceeded to hit a three run, walk off winning homerun, making the final score 9-6. Santander finished the day 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, a homerun, 3 runs scored, 3 RBI and a walk.

Robinson Chirinos (1 for 4, 1 HR, 1 run scored, 2 RBI) hit his first Orioles homerun in the second inning.

Tyler Nevin went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.

Bruce Zimmermann started and did not have his best stuff, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits (1 homerun), walking 1 and striking out 2.

Santander’s homerun made a winner out of Felix Bautista (0.1 IP, 1 BB) who is now 1-1 on the season.
