The Baltimore Orioles had their five game winning streak snapped on Sunday, falling to the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 8-1.

The Orioles took the early lead on Jorge Mateo’s (2 for 3, 1 Run Scored, 1 RBI) third inning solo homerun. That run was all the O’s could manage as Pittsburgh pitching limited them to 4 hits in the game.

Adley Rutschman went 1 for 4

Robinson Chirinos went 1 for 2 with a walk

Spenser Watkins (4-2) started and was cruising along through 4.0 innings; he retired all twelve batters he faced. Things went south in the fifth inning when Watkins allowed three Pirates runs. He was charged with a run in the 6th inning and finished with a line of 5.1 IP, 4 Runs, 4 Hits, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 WP and was tagged with the loss.

Pittsburgh scored 4 more runs in the seventh, one that resulted in Manager Brandon Hyde’s ejection from the game. The play in question was an out at home call that Pittsburgh challenged. The call was overturned and the run scored: replay deemed Chirinos blocked the runner’s (Greg Allen) path to the plate. Hyde came out of the dugout hoping for an explanation but was tossed instead.

It was hot and it was not fun.
