See saw battle ends with 12th inning 9-8 for Blue Jays

Yusniel Diaz collected three hit sin his major league debut and Rio Ruiz hit two home runs, but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Jays scored off Mychal Givens in the 12th to take a 9-8 win.

Orioles demoted Anthony Santander (.478 OPS) and promoted outfielder Yusniel Diaz.

The Orioles got on the board first when Aristides Aquino lined an RBI single to make it 1-0. Two batters later Bryan Holaday smacked his own RBI single to make it 2-0. One batter late Rio Ruiz turned on a Matt Shoemaker fastball and launched it to right field for a 3-run homer and a 5-0 lead.

Cavan Biggio led off the bottom of the 1st with a solo home run to cut it to 5-1, but Wade LeBlanc had no more trouble the rest of the inning.

In the bottom of the second though, the Blue Jays started teeing off on LeBlanc ringing up two home runs, including a three-run homer to put up five runs of their own and took a 6-5 lead. Glenn Sparkman was brought in with one out and runners on 1st and third and got a 6-4-3 double play to keep it 6-5.

In the top of the 7th, Hanser Alberto tied the game up with a solo home run to LF to make it 6-6. The next batter DJ Stewart smacked a solo shot to right field to give the Orioles their first lead since the first inning, 7-6.

In the bottom of the 7th, Paul Fry was brought in to face three lefties but after getting the first one out, a single and RBI double later it was 7-7. Miguel Castro came in and got the final out of the inning.

In the top of the 8th, with two-down, Ruiz came up and smacked his second home run of the game to break the tie and put the Orioles up 8-7. The Blue Jays got that one back on a sac fly against Miguel Castro to tie it up 8-8 heading into the 9th.

It took 12 innings, but the Blue Jays finally go a winning run across against closer Mychal Givens as the Blue jays win 9-8. The Orioles drop to 12-23 on the season, dead last in the AL East and tied with the Tigers for the worse record in major league baseball. The are 3-15 in their last 18 games.

LF Yusniel Diaz went 3-for-6 in his major league debut. DJ Stewart went 3-for-6 with a home run (4) and is batting .350 on the season so far.

Blaine Knight (9.95) allowed five earned runs in just 2.1 IP. Doran Turchin (.244) hit his first home of the year in a 2-for-3 performance. He also stole a base. LF Johnny Rizer (.328) went 2-for-4.
