It took 11 innings but the Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees 2-1 on Jackie Robinson Day.
The 11th inning began with Austin Hays (2 for 4, 1 double, 2 runs scored, 1 walk) on second base. Anthony Bemboom (0-0, 1 walk) and Kelvin Gutierrez (0-1, 1 walk) drew one out walks to load the bases. The Yankees bring in Aroldis Chapman who strikes out Cedric Mullins (0 for 5) but misses with a full count, high and away pitch to Ramon Urias (0 for 5, 1 walk, 1 RBI) that plated Hays for the win. Ain’t the beer cold!
Jorge Mateo went 1 for 5 with a RBI and Robinson Chirinos went 2 for 3 with a walk.
Jordan Lyles made the start and allowed 1 run on 6 hits, walked 2, struck out 4 and hit Anthony Rizzo with a pitch in 5.1 innings of work. The bullpen threw 4.2 combined scoreless and hitless innings while striking out a total of 8 Yankees.
Joey Krehbiel (1-0) pitched the 11th inning and allowed 1 hit while striking out 1 to get the win thanks to Urias.
FYI: LHP John Means was placed on the 10-day IL prior to the game and Travis Lakins, Sr was called up to the MLB club.
