Friday night’s contest between the Baltimore Orioles and the Cleveland Guardians at Oriole Park was a rite of passage for Adley Rutschman (0 for 4). On this night fans received an Adley Rutschman “Welcome To The Show” tee-shirt and were treated to post-game fireworks. As it turned out, the post-game display would be the only fireworks display of the night.

The Orioles were held hitless for the first 5.2 innings. Trey Mancini’s (2 for 4, 1 2B, 1 Run Scored, 2 RBI) sixth inning single broke up the no-hitter. The Guardians managed a 6-3 win over the Birds because they kept Orioles bats relatively quiet.

Limited to five hits in total, the Orioles got contributions from Anthony Santander (1 for 3, 1 RBI, 1 BB), Rougned Odor (1 for 4, 1 Run Scored) and Tyler Nevin (1 for 3, 1 Run Scored). All in all, the Orioles were 2 for 4 with runners in scoring position. In fact, the team only had two baserunners prior to the Mancini single.

Bruce Zimmermann (2-4) started and just was not sharp. The lefty allowed 5 runs on ten hits and struck out 1 over 5.1 innings and had the loss hung on him. He needed 87 pitches (63 strikes) to navigate 27 Cleveland hitters.

Austin Hays (0 for 4) had his 13-game hitting streak end Friday, as well.
