Friday’s nightcap was a 6-3 loss by the Baltimore Orioles at the hands of the New York Yankees (93-68). The loss guarantees the Orioles a losing record in 2026 even if Sunday’s game is played as planned. If Friday night’s wind and pelting rain were any indication, Sunday’s game in the Bronx is highly questionable.
Holding a 1-0 lead, the Yankees scored three runs in the home half of the sixth inning and Baltimore’s Rece Hinds had a hand in all three runs. Following a pair of one-out walks, Spencer Jones hit a fly ball to right field that Hinds misplayed for an error that allowed one run to score. With two outs in the same inning, Anthony Volpe was credited with a two-RBI automatic double down the right field line that eluded Hinds’ glove for a 4-0 Yankees’ lead. Making Hinds’ night even more dismal was the fact the he went 0 for 5 with 5 strike outs at the plate.
RBI-singles by Heliot Ramos and Luis Garcia Jr in the seventh inning accounted for New York’s final two runs.
Dylan Beavers (1 for 5) hit a solo homerun in the 9th inning, his second homerun of the doubleheader and 9th of the season, 368 ft. to right field.
Leody Taveras (2 for 4, 2 2B, 2 RBI) was responsible for Baltimore’s other two runs with his bases-loaded sacrifice fly to left field in the seventh inning and his one-out RBI-dounle to right in the ninth.
Making his 28th start of the season and taking the loss was Brandon Young (9-6) who allowed a run on 2 hits with 3 walks and 6 strike outs over 5.0 innings.
Cam Sanders struck out the side in the eighth inning.
Christian Franklin went 2 for 5 with a stolen base, giving him four hits in the doubleheader.
Catcher Yohel Pozo went 1 for 4 and stole his first base of the season after singling in the second inning.
