The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Chicago White Sox 4-1 on Friday night. The Orioles scored on a wild pitch, an “intentional hit” batter who stole second base and scored on a hit, a balk and a “traditional” RBI double. The two teams even had the obigatory quorum on the field to “discuss” the hit batter.
The real story was the bullpen. Four relievers combined to no-hit the White Sox over the final six innings of the game. Starter Austin Voth allowed 1 run on 1 hit, walked 2 and struck out 3 over 3.0 innings. Enter the relievers, Joey Krehbiel (3-3) struck out 3 over 2.1 innings, Bryan Baker struck out 1 in 1.1 innings, Cionel Perez struck out 1 in 1.1 innings and Jorge Lopez pitched a clean 9th inning. Krehbiel was credited with the win and Lopez earned his 13th save.
Offensively, Cedric Mullins went 1 for 4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Michael Kopech’s first inning allowed Mullins to score. Jorge Mateo, the “intentional” hit batter in the second inning went 0 for 2 with a run scored, a walk and the aforementioned hit by pitch. Richie Martin’s (1 for 4, 1 RBI, 2 SB) single allowed Mateo to score.
Adley Rutschman (1 for 4, 1 double, 1 run scored) crossed the plate in the 4th inning on Kopech’s balk. Finally, Austin Hays (1 for 4, 1 RBI) doubled in Trey Mancini (1 for 3, 1 2B, 1 run scored, 1 BB).
