Saturday’s game between the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees was not the pitcher’s duel that Friday’s game was. Three homeruns and a bases-loaded double sent the Orioles to an 8-3 loss in front of both a national audience and 42,829 fans at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. If the crowd noise was any indication, there were quite a few Yankees faithful in the Yard.

Tyler Wells (7-6) started and did not last very long, going just 2.2 innings and needing 63 pitches (39 strikes) to do so. Tagged with the loss, he allowed 3 runs on 3 hits, two of which were homeruns to Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge, while walking 3, striking out 1 and hitting Anthony Rizzo with a pitch. It should be noted that as of Saturday Wells has pitched 10 more innings so far in 2023 than he did in all of 2022 (113.2 to 103.2) in essentially the same number of games (21 to 23).

Bryan Baker (1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K) gave up the bases-clearing double to Isiah Kiner-Falefa in the sixth inning with the 3 runs being attributed to Cole Irvin (1.1 IP, 4 R, 5 H, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 K).

Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 4, 1 R, 1 RBI) hit his 13th homerun in the second inning.

Adam Frazier went 1 for 3 with a double and 1 run scored.

Ryan O’Hearn went 1 for 4 with a double and Gunnar Henderson did the same.

Ramon Urias went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.
