The Baltimore Orioles ended their homestand with a loss to the Cleveland Guardians Wednesday. With the 12-8 loss the Birds dropped the series against Cleveland and combined with the series loss to Texas finished the home stand 2-4.

The Orioles took the bullpen approach to cover the gap in the rotation but certainly didn’t plan on using seven relievers to navigate nine innings. Opener Keegan Akin lasted just 1.0 inning, allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 1 strikeout. A parade of Austin Voth (2.1 IP, 3 R, 5 H, 3 BB, 3 K), Cionel Perez (0.2 IP, 2 R, 3 H, 2 HR, 1 BB), Mychal Givens (0.0 IP, 3 R, 2 H, 1 BB) and Mike Baumann (2.1 IP, 3 R, 4 H, 1 HR, 3 K) followed with Givens (0-1) taking the loss.

Bryan Baker (1.2 IP, 1 H, 3 K) and Danny Coulombe (1.0 IP, 1 K) restored a sense of normalcy.

In fairness, the game was a back and forth affair with 4 lead changes following Cleveland’s 1-0 lead after one inning.

Anthony Santander went 1 for 5 with a homerun, 1 run scored and 2 RBI.

Adley Rutschman went 4 for 5 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI.

In his Orioles debut, Aaron Hicks went 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and a walk before suffering left calf cramps in the sixth inning.

Ryan O’Hearn continues to produce when called upon, going 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, 1 run scored, 2 RBI and a walk.

Jorge Mateo went 1 for 4 with a double, 1 run scored and 1 RBI.
