The Baltimore Orioles played a split squad schedule on Monday, hosting the Tampa Bay Rays in Sarasota, FL and travelling to North Port, FL to face the Atlanta Braves.

On the day, the Orioles beat the Braves 2-1 while falling to the Rays 8-3.

The game in Port North was a game of homeruns; all three runs scored in total came on solo homeruns. Jordan Westburg was the first to go yard and finished the day 2 for 3 with a triple, a homerun, 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Kyle Stowers accounted for Baltimore’s second run, going 1 for 3 with a homerun, 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Rounding out the Baltimore offense was Diego Castillo who went 2 for 3 with a double.

Seth Johnson started and walked 1 in 2.0 innings of work. Andrew Suarez pitched 2.0 clean innings (the 6th and 7th). Jean Pinto (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K) allowed Atlanta’s lone homerun to Forrest Wall in the eighth inning. Jacob Webb (1-0) was the pitcher of record for his clean 3rd inning.

Homeruns were the theme of the day in Sarasota as well. Tyler Nevin (1 for 2, 1 R, 2 RBI) homered in the second inning while Daniel Johnson (1 for 2, 1 R, 1 RBI) did the same in the seventh.

Silas Ardoin went 1 for 2 with a double and Coby Mayo went 2 for 2 with 1 run scored and a walk.

Cade Povich started and allowed 1 hit, walked 2 and struck out 2 in 2.0 innings. Justin Armbruester allowed 1 hit and struck out 4 in 3.0 innings of work. On the flip side, Kyle Brnovich allowed 4 runs on 4 hits (1 HR) with a walk and 2 strikeouts in 2.0 innings.

Cionel Perez (0-1) took the loss, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits (1 HR) with 1 strikeout in 1.0 inning of work.
