During the recently concluded series in St. Louis, the Baltimore Orioles scored five runs on nine hits in three games combined. On Thursday in Chicago, they scored eight runs on thirteen hits in an 8-6 defeat of the Chicago White Sox.

The Orioles scored four runs on a pair of homeruns, a solo shot by Anthony Santander (1 for 5, HR, R, RBI) and a three-run blast by Jorge Mateo (1 for 2, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 2 SB), both coming in the fourth inning. The Birds needed those runs for certain because the White Sox plated four runs in the ninth and were threatening with runners on first and second with one out before an unusual double play on an infield fly at second base.

Adley Rutschman went 2 for 5 with 3 RBI.

Ryan Mountcastle had the second four-hit game of his career, going 4 for 5 with a double and 2 runs scored.

Cedric Mullins went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases.

Austin Hays went 2 for 2 with a double and 1 RBI as a pinch hitter.

Gunnar Henderson went 1 for 2 with 1 run scored and 3 walks.

Grayson Rodriguez (5-1) started and grinded through 5.0 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with 5 walks, 7 strikeouts and a hit batter. He did, however get credit for the win.

Chicago did all their ninth inning damage to Jonathan Heasley (1.0 IP, 4 R, 2 H, 2 BB).

Craig Kimbrel (0.2 IP) earned his 10th save of 2024.
