Friday night’s game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Detroit Tigers began just like Thursday’s game with the San Francisco Giants ended, with a two-run homerun by Anthony Santander. That homerun was the first of five homeruns hit by the Orioles. All of Baltimore’s runs scored via the homerun in a 7-1 win over the Tigers.
Santander finished the game by going 1 for 3 with a homerun, 1 run scored, 2 RBI and a walk. His first inning homer inspired two of his teammates to double down with the long ball. Colton Cowser (2 for 4, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI) and James McCann (2 for 3, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI) each hit two homeruns in the game. Cowser’s came in the second and sixth innings while McCann went yard in the fourth and sixth innings.
All the action caused one of the hoses on the Hydration Station to dislodge; McCann was seen holding just the hose.
Gunnar Henderson went 2 for 4 with a double, 1 run scored and a stolen base.
Coby Mayo went 1 for 4 with a run scored.
Austin Slater went 1 for 3.
Starter Corbin Burnes (15-8) pitched a gem of a game, throwing 91 pitches (60 strikes) over 7.0 innings while limiting the Tigers to just 3 hits. Burnes walked 3 and struck out 8 to earn the win.
Danny Coulombe returned from the IL and gave up 2 hits, struck out 2 and threw a wild pitch in 1.0 inning of work.
Jacob Webb allowed 1 run on 2 hits and a walk in the ninth inning.
The win decreased Baltimore’s magic number to lock down a playoff spot to 3 (O’s wins + Tigers losses).
