An Earl Weaver Special And A 7 Inning Quality Start Is A Winning Formula

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (34-18) 6-1 on Tuesday night. Baltimore rode the quality start put in by Shane Baz (2-5) against his former team on the way to victory.

Baz threw 99 pitches (60 K’s) over 7.0 innings and allowed a run on 7 hits with a pair of walks and 9 strike outs.. Despite allowing a first inning run, Baz escaped trouble in the first, third and fifth innings to earn the win.

Baltimore plated 3 runs in the second inning due to a pair of Tampa Bay errors. Jeremiah Jackson (1 for 4), Blaze Alexander (0 for 4) and Jackson Holliday (2 for 3, 2 R) each knocked in runs.

The big blow came in the fifth inning on Samuel Basallo‘s (1 for 4, 2 R) three-run homerun to right center field.

Grant Wolfram and Andrew Kittredge pitched scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

Leody Taveras went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
