In a game on Sunday that saw a 1 hour 49-minute rain delay once the top of the third inning was complete, the Baltimore Orioles lost 8-0 to the Philadelphia Phillies (59-53). A second rain delay occurred once the top of the sixth was complete and finally, after 28 minutes the game was called.
Going back to Friday night’s game and through Sunday’s contest, the O’s went a total of 15 scoreless innings and over those 15 innings managed just 7 hits. In Sunday’s shutout, the Orioles recorded four hits, all singles. Adding to the offensive futility was the fact that 7 of Baltimore’s 15 outs came via the strike out.
Sunday’s offense came off the bats of Pete Alonso (1 for 2), Dylan Beavers (1 for 3), Jake Rogers (1 for 1) and Taylor Ward (1 for 2).
All four of the pitchers that Manager Craig Albernaz sent to the mound surrendered runs to the Phillies.
Kyle Bradish (7-10) made the start and lasted until the first rain delay. He took the loss, thanks to another anemic offensive performance, with a line of 3.0 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K, WP. The two runs Bradish gave up came on a Bryan De La Cruz two-run homerun in the third inning.
Coming out of the rain delay Anthony Nunez relieved Bradish and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits with 2 walks in the fourth inning.
Josh Walker pitched the fifth inning and allowed a run on 2 hits with a walk. The run came on a Bryce Harper homerun.
The Phillies’ sixth inning resulted in 3 runs allowed by Albert Suarez on 3 hits. Suarez also gave up a pair of walks.
Baltimore has now lost two games in a row as they head into Monday’s 6 pm trade deadline. Will we welcome a new Oriole or two or will we say goodbye to some Orioles? Stay tuned.
