What started as a possible slugfest, ended in heartbreak Wednesday night when the Baltimore Orioles lost 11-7 in 10 innings to the Cincinnati Reds. The game was 6-4 in favor of the Reds after two innings and then the scoring stopped for five innings. Cincinnati scored once in the top of the eighth making it 7-4 in their favor.
With two outs in the home half of the eighth, Aaron Hicks (1 for 4, 1 R, 1 BB) singled and then scored on a Jordan Westburg (2 for 5, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI) double. Adam Frazier (1 for 2, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB) then homered into the right field flag court to tie the game at seven apiece.

A scoreless ninth moved the game into extras and that is when the wheels came off. Keegan Akin (2-2), the fifth reliever manager Brandon Hyde needed, surrendered a two-run homerun to TJ Friedl and allowed Luke Maile to score on a wild pitch on the way to a 0.2 inning effort that saw the Reds score 4 runs, 2 earned, on 3 hits. Akin walked 1 and struck out 2 and took the loss when the Orioles failed to score in the bottom of the tenth. Bruce Zimmermann (0.1 IP, 1 K) was needed to get the Orioles out of the tenth inning.

Ryan O’Hearn went 1 for 5 with a run scored and 1 RBI.
Kyle Gibson started and gave up 6 runs on 9 hits with a walk, 5 strikeouts, and a hit batter in 4.2 innings.
