Thursday’s 14-1 beatdown of the New York Yankees and especially pitchers Luis Severino (2.2 IP, 7 R, 10 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR) and Albert Abreu (0.2 IP, 6 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 1 HR, 1 HBP) could have been a lot worse. Nothing against 14 runs on a total of 20 hits, but there were still 15 Orioles left on base with the team going 8 for 20 with runners in scoring position. Additional scoring was certainly there for the taking.

Baseballs were flying all over Yankee Stadium so much that an air traffic controller from nearby La Guardia Airport was needed. The game was so bad that Yankees fans booed loudly and Aaron Hicks wasn’t even in the lineup.

Gunnar Henderson said “who’s your daddy?!” to Yankee pitchers. He led off the game with an opposite field homerun and homered again in the fourth inning on the way to a 4 for 7, 3 runs scored, 5 RBI night.

Everyone in the Orioles starting lineup scored at least one run and the offensive highlights include Adley Rutschman going 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and 2 walks, Jordan Westburg going 2 for 5 with a double, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and a walk, Ryan O’Hearn going 3 for 4 with a double, 1 run scored, 4 RBI and a walk and finally Adam Frazier going 3 for 6 with a double and 1 run scored.

Kyle Bradish (5-4) limited the Yankees to just 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5 over a 6.0 inning start. Bradish pitched well and earned the win despite his long time on the bench during the Baltimore at-bats.

The game got bizarre, if that’s even possible, in the Orioles half of the eighth inning. With the score 13-0, Wandy Peralta (1.0 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 K, 1 BB, WP), the fifth Yankees pitcher of the game, with two on and one out, threw a pitch in the area of O’Hearn’s head and ended up walking him to load the bases. After Cedric Mullins (1 for 4, 1 2B, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB) knocked in the 14th run with a groundout, Colton Cowser (0 for 3, 1 R, 2 BB) was hit by a pitch in the right shoulder which led the umpire crew to huddle up and issue warnings to both sides. Home plate umpire and Crew Chief Dan Iassogna ejected Manager Brandon Hyde as soon as he approached to question why Peralta was not ejected.

Anthony Santander (2 for 4, 1 2B, 1 R) was hit by an Abreu pitch in the third inning following a Rutschman single.
