Wednesday’s game with the Toronto Blue Jays ended as a 4-1 loss for the Baltimore Orioles. A span of ten pitches during the sixth inning hurt both Orioles fans and Blue Jays players.

Grayson Rodriguez (2-3), Wednesday’s starter, lasted 5.2 innings and pitched to a final line of 3 runs allowed on 2 hits with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts; he was tagged with the loss. Rodriguez’s sixth inning started with 2 quick outs and then 2 walks later he was given the hook by Manager Brandon Hyde.

Shintaro Fujinami (0.1 IP, 1 UER, 1 BB, 2 HBP) relieved Rodriguez and that is when the ten pitch sequence began. A four-pitch walk to George Springer loaded the bases. One pitch later Matt Chapman was hit by the pitch to “drive in” one run, Danny Jansen was hit by a pitch three pitches later (on a 0-2 count) to plate the second run of the inning and the piece de resistance came two pitches later when Jorge Mateo (0 for 2) booted a Daulton Varsho ground ball that was hit right to him. The third run of the inning scored on that play. Ten pitches, four strikes, 3 runs, enough said.

Adley Rutschman went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI, knocking in James McCann (1 for 4, 1 2B, 1 R) in the fifth inning.

Ryan Mountcastle went 2 for 2 with 2 walks and a stolen base.

Cole Irvin allowed 1 hit and struck out 2 in 2.0 innings of relief.
