Tuesday’s 10-3 loss to the San Diego Padres was a fait accompli after the first inning. The Baltimore Orioles were down 5-0 after one inning and then watched helplessly as the Padres scored two more runs in the second to increase the deficit to 7-0.

Starting pitcher Jack Flaherty (8-8), in his third start as an Oriole, just didn’t have it Tuesday night. The right-hander struggled with his control, throwing 84 pitches (52 strikes) to get through just 3.0 innings. Flaherty faced 17 batters and allowed 7 runs on 4 hits, 1 a grand slam homerun to the Padres Gary Sanchez, while walking 4 and striking out 3. Flaherty took the loss and now has a 1-2 record for the Orioles.

Baltimore was down 10-0 before getting on the scoreboard in the sixth inning. A Ryan O’Hearn (2 for 3, 1 R, 1 BB) double combined with a Cedric Mullins (2 for 4, 1 RBI) two-out single put a run on the board.

Austin Hays (2 for 4, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI) hit a solo homerun in the ninth inning and the a Gunnar Henderson (1 for 5, 1 RBI) single knocked in Adam Frazier (1 for 3, 1 R, 1 HBP) to finish the scoring.

Ryan Mountcastle went 1 for 4 and is currently slashing .389/ .447/ .600 since returning from the Injured List on June 9th.

Back-up catcher James McCann (1.0 IP, 2 H) pitched the eighth inning and “threw” 14 pitches (9 strikes) at speeds ranging from 39-53 mph.
